Let AI agents build and deploy your app on your Mac. Then move it to the cloud.

ownpaas is a macOS app: local Kubernetes labs where your coding agent builds, tests and deploys your app in self-contained environments, and a control panel that shows what each agent did. When the app is ready, it moves to a small k3s cluster in your own Hetzner project.

What you get

A lab on your Mac, and a control panel

Every part says how far it is. ownpaas is not released; In testing means built and being tested in the app.

Kubernetes on your MacPreview

k3s clusters on Linux VMs that run on Apple’s Virtualization framework, created from a template. A kubeconfig for you and one for your agent; the management cluster’s kubeconfig stays in the app.

The infrastructure around itIn testing

Servers, private networks, firewalls, load balancers, volumes, DNS zones and S3 buckets. They answer through the Hetzner Cloud API, so the hcloud CLI and Terraform work unchanged.

A project per agentIn testing

Each agent works in a project of its own, with its own token and limits, and every action is recorded with the token that started it. The agent never gets your cloud account’s token.

Reset and checkpointsIn testing

One call empties a project. A checkpoint saves it, the servers’ disks included, and restores it when a change went wrong, so the agent may try something risky.

An MCP server for your agentIn testing

Added to Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or Claude Desktop with one click; any other MCP client gets the entry to paste. Thin on purpose: projects, reset, checkpoints and the cost.

The control panelIn testing

Every resource, cluster and app of the lab, what each agent did, the checkpoints, and a kill switch per agent. Your Hetzner Cloud projects too, read-only until you allow changes.

How it works

From your Mac to your own cloud

Three steps. The lab runs on your Mac and keeps running when you close the window; the cloud parts run in your own account.

  1. Step 1: Prepare, on your Mac

Your agent builds and tests the app

Kubernetes clusters, servers, private networks, load balancers, volumes, DNS and S3 run on your Mac. Each agent works in a project of its own; reset and checkpoints let it try something risky and go back.

    • In testing the lab, the agent tools, reset and checkpoints
    • Preview Kubernetes clusters
  2. Step 2: Pre-publish, through a gateway

    Show it to testers first

A gateway gives the app on your Mac a public address, through an encrypted tunnel. The gateway is a small server in your own cloud account and costs a few euros a month.

    • In testing the gateway and its tunnel
    • In development a login in front of the app and rate limits
  3. Step 3: Publish, in your cloud account

    Move to Cloud

The monthly cost comes first, item by item, then the move. A Kubernetes app goes to a small k3s cluster in your own Hetzner project, created and kept current by PaaSbox Clusters (€29 a month, incl. VAT, not bookable yet).

    • In testing the cost preview and a Terraform export
    • Planned the move into PaaSbox Clusters

The approach

Small, isolated environments

The idea behind the whole suite: an agent’s change is tried in an environment of its own before it reaches anything that matters, and every stage and every app gets a small environment instead of a share of a big one.

A project per task

When an agent breaks something, it breaks only its project. A reset or a checkpoint takes it back; nothing else was touched.

A small cluster per stage and app

Several small clusters instead of one large one that every stage and app shares. A failed upgrade or a runaway test reaches one stage of one app.

Built to be thrown away

Kubernetes stands up an app with its database, certificates and configuration the same way every time, on your Mac and in the cloud, so an environment can be rebuilt instead of repaired.

Who it is for

For people who build with agents

Developers who build with agents

You build cloud-native apps with Claude Code, Cursor or Codex, and want the agent to work on real infrastructure without touching a real cloud account.

Teams that build on Hetzner Cloud

Terraform modules, controllers, hetzner-k3s or CI, tested against an API that answers like the real one, with no cost and nothing to clean up.

Companies and trainers

Paddle.com will be the reseller and merchant of record: it handles payment, VAT and the invoice. Telemetry is off; the licence check sends licence data only, once a week. A lab keeps working 30 days offline, and existing labs keep running when a licence ends. Pricing has the details.
